Embracing the Flood: on the Confluence of Science, Art and Faith
Gretchen Alexander
Artist and ecologist, Gretchen Alexander, will talk with us about how she stepped away from a career in the natural sciences to pursue a calling as an artist, how reframing hardship through the lens of opportunity facilitated personal growth and positive change for her, and some of her thoughts on the intersection of science, art, and revelation.
Gretchen paints Vermont’s landscape with vibrant colors in an energetic, impressionistic style to convey the wild splendor of the natural world. Her academic background is in aquatic ecology, and while she worked as a public servant scientist in that field for over 20 years, she always maintained a creative practice on the side. In 2023 she made the bold decision to switch careers to pursue painting full time. Gretchen grew up in Jericho and has lived here for the majority of her life. She is raising two sons here with her husband Brian.
